DroneEye
Drone EarlY warning & jamming system
The scope of the project is to develop and demonstrate an intelligent system, DroneEyE, that will be able to collect information and detect and localize COTS malicious drones and neutralize them through electronic means. The system should be able to detect multiple targets through radar and electronic transmission signature means. The aim is to first demonstrate the single system with a scope to subsequently develop multiple distributed systems at a national scale that will collaborate between them and will act as a national wide safe warning and neutralization system.
The scientific objectives of the project include developing an intelligent COTS drone protection solution for the purpose of detecting and neutralizing malicious drones approaching critical infrastructures or other areas of interest. In this context, DroneEye has set the following objectives:
- Develop a drone detection system, that will automatically detect and localize a malicious drone entering a critical area
- Assess the current detection and neutralization techniques for COTS drones (state of the art) and examine how to better utilize different drone detection parameters such as, Radar RCS, RSSI of drone or operator, other communication signals at the area of interest in order to minimize false drone intrusion alarms
- Examine how distributed detections systems can yield better results
- Investigate the efficiency of RF jamming VS GPS Spoofing VS protocol disruption
- Examine how drone RSSI, when available, and multi array antenna systems can be used together to identify the azimuth direction of a COTS drone
- Identify how to increase localization accuracy estimate of the COTS drone in different environments
