Industrial Onboard and Ashore Systems

This functionality of the Cyber Range focuses on the Machinery Monitoring and Control System (MMCS) onboard ships, and for critical infrastructure at ports and operation centers. Participants are introduced to various ICS/IT cyber-attack techniques using the MITRE ATT&CK framework. The Cyber Range and training sessions can cover sophisticated attack scenarios, including pivoting attacks that demonstrate how adversaries can move between compromised maritime assets.

The MMCS functionality offers a realistic interface for monitoring ship machinery, using virtual controllers and real-time data to recreate the control environment found in ships' engine rooms. This hands-on experience is crucial for understanding the vulnerabilities and protective strategies associated with maritime industrial systems.

Ashore Center for Maritime Situational Awareness

The Maritime ashore center of the Cyber Range focuses on tools designed for managing fleet operations and enhancing maritime situational awareness (MSA) and maritime cybersecurity situational awareness (MCSA). The fleet management system is equipped with a virtual Command and Control System (C2), featuring a graphical map viewer capable of aggregating and analyzing data from various sources including GNSS, AIS, Radar and other sensors, to provide a comprehensive cyber maritime picture. This component emphasizes the importance of cybersecurity in maintaining operational integrity and situational awareness, preparing participants to defend against complex cyber-attacks that could compromise maritime operations, safety and security.
